John J. Pershing VA Medical Center to Host COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Pocahontas, AR

(Poplar Bluff, MO)  – The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Thursday, March 11, at the VA clinic in Pocahontas, Arkansas, located at 300 Camp Road.  The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will initially be open to veteran patients ages 65 and up or those with high risk medical conditions.  Age restrictions may decrease as appointments remain available.

VA patients interested in receiving the vaccine are urged to call 573-686-4151 or 1-888-557-8262 and push “2” to schedule an appointment.

Chief Nurse and clinic coordinator, Bailey Wells explained that personnel will be administering the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine.  “The Janssen vaccine is not an mRNA vaccine but a traditional, adenovirus vaccine, meaning it works by trigging the immune system and training it to recognize the coronavirus.  It has been shown to be very effective in reducing the risk of death, serious illness, and hospitalization from COVID-19,” Wells said.  “And only one dose is required for this vaccine.”

The vaccinations can only be provided to veterans who are enrolled for VA health care services.  To inquire about eligibility to enroll, veterans may call 573-778-4680.
